Summer Staycation #2 --- Your Desktop Japanese Inn
There's something so meticulous, so sweetened, and so absorbed in materiality about the Japanese Inn wallpapers and folder icons found at the Japanese design site
Hybridworks that it just slays me! Click on the old "Yoritsuki" in the side column (the new version is still to come).
As a package of materials they're just darling!
Having not yet achieved my lifelong dream of staying in a Japanese country inn, these objects are triply abstract for me. Culturally foreign, fictional in their own context (it's an invented, imaginary Inn), and digitally abstracted.
But, look at me! . . . they still make me feel relaxed, and I actually change the daytime view to the nighttime view around sundown when I'm journeying to this imaginary place of rest and recuperation.
Not to mention the E-word (econ**y) . . . but I know I'm not the only one whose travel plans for the summer sadly include a few more trips to the hometown video store.
So, take a week this summer, load the Inn, change some icons, and have a cup of green tea on me!
And yes there is an actual "Desktop Vacation" on the same site, but I prefer the Inn.
